NVZ Appeals submitted
The Aardvark Environmental Management team has been working alongside farmers and the NFU in preparing additional evidence to support NVZ (Nitrate Vulnerable Zones) appeals related to both groundwater and surface water designations.
This has involved collating and anlaysing the nitrate data in rivers and acquifers collected by Environment Agency, Water Companies and District Councils.
This groundtruthing of national analysis is highlighting the need to revisit some boundaries of and indeed some entire designations.
The deadline for the additional information is 10th March 2009 and the decisions should be known 6 months thereafter.
Aardvark are now in discussions with the NFU to undertake a comprehensive review of the appeal process and how they can advise their considerable national membership on this important issue in the future.
