Aardvark project
Environmental Impact Assessment
| Location: Peninnis Farm, Isles of Scilly | Client: Private |
| Date: August 2005 | Sector: Environment - Water, Waste and Energy |

Project Objectives:
- To provide an integrated waste, energy and water feasibility study for an all new supplied camping facility;
- To undertake an Environmental Impact Assessment of the proposal to include ecology, hydrogeology, energy and waste management;
- To provide supporting documentation for the planning application.
How Aardvark Delivered:
- The site which lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and neighbours a Site of Specific Scientific Interest had previously been used for horticulture and the project forms part of a diversification scheme by the leaseholder of the land.
- Aardvark undertook a detailed feasibility study for the provision of an integrated sustainable waste, water and energy infrastructure for the proposed camping facility on St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly.
- Local Plan policy requires all new infrastructure developments to be undertaken with sustainability in mind and not provide an onerous burden on the already restricted island infrastructure.
- The design scheme provided details for a self sufficient camping operation for 240 people. The proposal included the design of new bore holes, waste water treatment system including a reedbed and short rotation coppice, biomass boilers to provide space, water and heating.
