Sustainable camping scheme gets go ahead 22/11/11

by Stef Dua

A new concept in sustainable camping has received planning permission.

Jon & Daniel May received planning consent for 7 sustainable tents on their farm on St Mary's, Isles of Scilly that will be self-sufficient in water, waste and energy.  Aardvark has been working on the scheme for 5 years since its conception.

The tents, which will sleep up to 6 people will each have their own bathroom pod and kitchen, with the hot water supply coming from a central biomass boiler system, the  water supply will come from on-farm boreholes.

The scheme which will provide valuable farm diversification income for Peninnis Farm hopes to become a flagship trourism project on the islands and a proactive response to a changing and increasingly challenging tourist market as the number of visitors to the islands seek new experiences.
